Hi All.

Is it possible to use Deflate compression with openl2tp?

I've compiled openl2tp and connected with a PPP client over l2tp, and it seems to negotiate deflate compression correctly.

rcvd [CCP ConfReq id=0x1 <deflate 15> <deflate(old#) 15>]
sent [CCP ConfReq id=0x1]
sent [CCP ConfRej id=0x1 <deflate 15> <deflate(old#) 15>]

but when i use TCPdump on the interface the frames appear to be uncompressed and the original size. (below is the output from tcpdump which shows the payload length of 1300 bytes indicating no compression). I have used a textfile as the transport which should be easily compressed.

15:50:15.597135 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 63998, offset 0, flags [none], proto UDP (17), length 1338)
x.x.x.x.41929 > y.y.y.y.l2f: l2tp:[](33993/8143) {IP (tos 0x0, ttl 56, id 49778, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 1300)
a.a.a.a.http > b.b.b.b.vieo-fe: [|tcp]}

Anyone got any ideas?

I've just noticed thats a Conf-Reject which explains why its not being compressed, but does anyone know if deflate can be set as an option for openl2tp, perhaps on compile time?

OpenL2TP forces deflate off at the moment. I think that's what the L2TP spec says.

To enable it, modify plugins/ppp_unix.c and remove the line
Code:
argv[arg++] = "nodeflate";
