Ouch. Thanks for the report.

Does it still happen if you boot the system with just one CPU disabled?

Hello,

We experienced the same problem with kernel panics as described here. The panics were random, after between 5 and 60 minutes of uptime.

Our server is running Debian Squeeze
$ uname -a
Linux 2.6.38-bpo.2-686 #1 SMP Mon May 2 11:31:58 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

OpenL2TP package version is 1.8-1.

We don't have the complete kernel panic output, but here is what we did capture:

[ 1354.189965] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000004
[ 1354.193873] IP: [<f84a6dd5>] l2tp_recv_common+0x490/0x5f3 [l2tp_core]
[ 1354.193873] *pde = 00000000

[ 1354.193873] Modules linked in: authenc esp4 xfrm4_mode_tunnel cls_u32 sch_sfq sch_htb tun l2tp_ppp pppox ppp_generic slhc l2tp_netlink l2tp_core inet_diag deflate zlib_deflate ctr twofish_generic twofish_i5 [ [[[[[^M^M^M[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ [[[[[[[[[l[ 1[[[[[ [[ [[ [[ [[[ [ [ [[[ [[ [[[[[ 1355.296781] [<c1215a44>] ? ip_rcv_finish+0x0/0x31f
[ 1355.303900] [<c11f4037>]

After seeing this thread above we tried deactivating Hyperthreading in the BIOS, and since then we have not had a single panic. We just wanted to add our information into the mix to help others, and to see if the core of the issue can be identified.

Please let us know if any more information is needed.

Thanks.
